Astronomy(The name of) an asteroid discovered in 1932 which follows an orbit crossing that of Mars and approaching but not crossing that of Earth. Also: any of a large group of asteroids, including Eros, which follow orbits of this nature (also "Amor asteroid", "Amor object").

1930s; earliest use found in Science News. From classical Latin Amor, a name for the god of love (from amor love from amāre to love + -or), after the name of the asteroid Eros.
