  • A police and military force set up, staffed, and financed by the United Kingdom to keep the peace in the former Emirate of Transjordan (now Jordan).

    The Arab Legion was formed in 1923 through the amalgamation of existing police units and a military force set up by the British in 1920; it was nationalized and incorporated into the Jordanian Armed Forces in 1956.
