Origin

Mid 19th century; earliest use found in David Livingstone (1813–1873), explorer and missionary. From Bemba babemba the Bemba people from ba-, plural class prefix denoting people + -bemba, self-designation; compare (with initial augment) ababemba, in the same sense.
