An organization founded in London in 1859 to provide employment for former soldiers and sailors as messengers, porters, guards, etc.; (also, more fully Canadian Corps of Commissionaires) a similar organization founded in Canada in 1925.
In Britain, the Corps of Commissionaires now trades as a security company under the name Corps Security. Neither the British nor the Canadian organization currently employs only ex-military personnel.
