Delhi sore


  • The nodular, ulcerated sore that is the characteristic lesion of the protozoal disease cutaneous leishmaniasis, and which heals with scarring; the disease itself, the Old World form of which is endemic in South Asia as well as in the Near and Middle East and North Africa.

    The many names for this lesion and disease often consist of a word denoting the lesion prefixed by the name of a place where it was known to be acquired, as Aleppo bouton, Baghdad button, Biskra bouton, etc. Compare also "oriental sore".
