Meaning of faggot vote in English:

faggot vote

Pronunciation /ˈfaɡət vəʊt/

noun

historical British Politics
  • A vote for a particular candidate or party fraudulently contrived by nominally transferring sufficient property to a person who would not otherwise be qualified to vote. Also in extended use: any vote considered to be biased or unfairly influenced.

Origin

Early 19th century; earliest use found in The Morning Post. From faggot + vote, probably originally showing a transferred use of faggot, the voter hence being a ‘dummy’ voter, but subsequently interpreted as showing the primary sense ‘bundle (of sticks)’ as a result of association of the term with the practice (forbidden in 7 & 8 Will. III. c. 25) of subdividing a single tenement among a number of nominal owners.
