(c.1165–1218), French soldier. From 1209 he led the Albigensian Crusade against the Cathars in southern France.
Earl of Leicester (c.1208–65), English soldier, born in Normandy. He was the son of Simon de Montfort. He led the baronial opposition to Henry III, defeating the king at Lewes in 1264 and summoning a Parliament (1265). He was defeated and killed by reorganized royal forces under Henry's son (later Edward I).
