  • (1922–95), Israeli statesman and military leader, prime minister 1974–7 and 1992–5. In 1993 he negotiated a PLO–Israeli peace accord with Yasser Arafat, for which he shared the 1994 Nobel Peace Prize with Arafat and Shimon Peres. He was assassinated by a Jewish extremist.
