Mid 16th century; earliest use found in James Sanford (fl. 1567–1582), translator. Originally from post-classical Latin astrologica (neuter plural) matters or facts of astrology, treatise on astrology from ancient Greek τὰ ἀστρολογικά, use as noun of neuter plural of ἀστρολογικός.
