A rare phosphate mineral typically occurring as pale green, yellow, or pink tabular crystals having a pearly lustre.
Augelite is a basic phosphate of aluminium, Al₂PO₄(OH)₃. Crystal system: monoclinic.
Mid 19th century; earliest use found in James Dana (1813–1895), geologist, zoologist, and teacher. Apparently from Swedish augelith, with remodelling of the second element after -lite.
