noun
(also galantee show)
historical A play or pantomime produced by throwing shadows of puppets on to a wall or screen.
Origin
Early 18th century; earliest use found in O Raree Show!. Probably either from Italian galante fine, splendid + show, or from gallant + show, with the form of the first element representing a non-native speaker's pronunciation of English.
