Origin

1960s; earliest use found in Allan Sichel (1900–1965). From modern Greek †μαυρόν, μαυρο, neuter of Hellenistic Greek μαῦρος black, dark: use as a noun is not recorded in dictionaries of modern Greek, but probably underlies the English uses.
