Definition of Minkowski inequality in English:

Minkowski inequality

noun

Mathematics Physics
  • Either of two generalizations of the triangle inequality, stating that the magnitude of the sum of two vectors or functions is less than or equal to the sum of their magnitudes.

    The formulae are as follows: for two functions f and g, |f + g|p1/p ≦ |f|p1/p + |g|p1/p; for two vectors (a₁,…,aₙ) and (b₁,…,bₙ), ∑|aᵢ + bᵢ|p1/p ≦ ∑|aᵢ|p1/p + ∑|bᵢ|p1/p.
