In full "Narina trogon" (also "Narina's trogon"). The forest bird Apaloderma narina (family Trogonidae) of sub-Saharan Africa, noted for its bright metallic green and red plumage.
Early 19th century; earliest use found in Universal System of Natural History. From French narina, apparently a Khoekhoe word for ‘flower’, although no such word has been traced in the modern Khoekhoe language. Compare.
