A native or inhabitant of Neustria, the western part of the Frankish empire (lying roughly west of the Meuse and north of the Loire rivers) in the Merovingian period.
The name Neustria later became restricted to a smaller area and, by the 11th and 12th centuries, was sometimes applied just to Normandy.
