Origin
Late 19th century; earliest use found in Francis Adams (1862–1893), writer. From the name of the river Nile + -ote, after Hellenistic Greek Νειλώτης, noun (also adjective, feminine Νειλῶτις; compare classical Latin Nīlōtis, feminine adjective).
