A red wine produced in the commune of Vosne-Romanée in the department of Côte d'Or in eastern France. Also more fully "La Romanée".
Also in the names of two other similar wines from the same commune, "Romanée-Conti" and "Romanée-Saint-Vivant" (so called after the names of their respective vineyards).
Early 19th century; earliest use found in The Monthly Review. From French Romanée from Romanée, the name of the village where the wine is produced.
